BHF CRE funded a heart stand at the GERF, with hands-on heart cell displays and live heart rate surveys enjoyed by visitors of all ages!
Written by Dr Benedict Reilly-O’Donnell
The Great Exhibition Road Festival was held this year on the 7th and 8th of June. A team from the NHLI hosted a stall in the Family zone, aiming to demystify the anatomy and physiology of the heart for a diverse audience. A standout feature was the hands-on exhibits of cardiomyocytes, offering a rare opportunity to touch and see these cells up close.
The stall also actively involved the public in research, inviting contributions to a live survey of visitor heart rates. Children particularly enjoyed being able to plot their results on our giant graphs! Particular thanks must go out to the NHLI public engagement and the BHF CRE, who funded our exhibition. The team really enjoyed their weekend and are already making plans for next year!
The team were: Ben Reilly-O'Donnell, Julia Gorelik, Jiarong Fu, Houcheng (Tony) Wang, Danya Agha-Jaffar, Sam Reitemeier, Ao Li, Anies Makhdomi- Sohi, Angel Lai, Kate Steingart, Xinyao (Yilia) Qiang, Ting Sun, Vineesh Kappadan, Alice Francis, Fani Koutentaki, Iyobel Kibreap, Jose Sanchez- Alonso, Nuun Wisetyaningsih, Silvia Berrettoni, Victoria Noakes, Jake Burke, Sejal Singal, Yumin Hou, Sibo Lyu, Xiangjie Song, Tianyu (Richard) Xu and Veronika Boichenko
